If you've found your way here, you may already know that my name is Bill and I enjoy writing songs about God. If you did not know that, well now you do. I hope to be faithful with the songs I write. I'm not sure I know how to do that, but I think this website is a start. It contains the lyrics, chord charts, mp3's, even the stories behind the songs. And it is all free to you. So look around. Enjoy. And thanks for stopping by.

God of Death to Life

download chord chart // download mp3

(chorus)
God, in the dark remind my heart
You are the God of death to life
Nothing too hard, No pain too sharp
For You are the God of death to life

(verse 1)
The night it might make me weak
The coming morning seems bleak
My faith, I can not muster
And longing’s lost its luster

(pre-chorus 1)
As death creeps into life
As darkness blinds my sight
I can’t see, nor believe
All hope has slipped from my reach

(verse 2)
By grace, my faith was founded
Forever, it is grounded
In the hands that formed the whole world
My doubting soul can be sure…

(pre-chorus 2)
As death creeps into life
As darkness blinds my sight
Those same hands were spread wide
And pierced that death might bring life

(bridge)
There is nothing, no nothing beyond the God of death to life (repeat)

-------------------------------------------------------

I wrote this song after a conversation with my friend Taylor Brown about the topic he would be preaching about that upcoming Sunday. He told me that, in his opinion, the faith in God that truly matters is not necessarily faith in his existence, but rather faith in His ability to bring life out of death.

The life He brings may not be the life we expected, but He will bring life; life infinitely better than our expectations. That is simply what He is in the business of doing. He is the God of death to life.

There were numerous people at our church, and in my life, experiencing "death", both literally and figuratively; people facing divorce, bankruptcy, cancer, addiction, etc. With those situations in mind, I penned this song of hope. I wanted them to have the opportunity to claim again the sovereignty and goodness of God, in the midst of their pain. I wanted the same for myself.

We often do not feel as though we possess the strength to face life's hardest and darkest times. In those moments, we need God's grace to remind us that...nothing is beyond Him, for He is the God of death to life.
